“I don’t know what I’ll say.” If you believe that, then I’d like to sell you a bridge in Florida!
I have been asked by the organizers of the Strictly Sail Boat Show to give a seminar this weekend. The subject I have chosen is, “TENACITY, the most important skill of a cruiser.”
I don’t know what I’ll say, but some things that come to mind are related to what it takes to keep a boat going all the way around the world. Engine breakdowns, gear failures, broken wires, corrosion, no parts, and you would think that cruising is "Fixing your boat in foreign ports" Which it is. That’s not to say that you cant have fun doing so if you have the right attitude and are prepared for all of this. It's not all peaches and cream out there, and I would have appreciated knowing that the brochure had fine print! Weather delays, seasonal requirements, breakdowns...patience is required for sailing a boat around the world. I guess that I’ll have plenty to say!
If you can make it, it would sure be nice to see familiar faces in the audience. You might be the only audience…after all who wants to come to a seminar to learn how difficult it is to do what you’ve been dreaming about! Who wants to think about engine repairs when a palm tree lined white sand beach is so much more intriguing? And, if you are in the audience, you get special privileges to heckle the speaker with silly questions like “Is the World Really Round, “Where do you stop at night,” etc…☺
